Year 4 Classroom Saints
The Year 4 students have begun the 2022 school year by learning about their classroom saint. Learn about St Josephine Bahkita, St. Paul, St. Francisco Marto and what the students have discovered.
Saint Josephine Bahkita
Saint Josephine Bahkita was also known as Mother Merrita, meaning the Black Sister. She was born around the year 1869 and died on the 8th of February in 1947. At the age of 9 she was kidnapped and sold into slvaery. Floggings and continuos maltreatment were a common occurrence. In 1882 her suffering ceased when she was bought into an Italian family and was granted her freedom. She was later entrusted into the care of the Canossian Sisters and spent the rest of her life with them. She eventually became a sister within this religious order and her love and devotion for Jesus developed. Her Feast day is February the 8th and she is a Patron for human trafficking survivors.
Saint Paul
He was called Saul by his parents. He did not believe in Jesus.
He saw a vision of Christ and was blind for three days because he was planning to kill people who believed in Jesus. He was healed by a Christian and began to follow Jesus teachings.
He joined the disciples and spent his life living and teaching the Catholic faith around the world.
Feast Day is on the 29th of June
Patron Saint of writers and missionaries.
Saint Francisco Marto
Young St. Francisco was born on June 11th in 1908. He was the 6th child in his family. He was a peacekeeper; he was gentle, kind, mischievous and very inspiring.
Young Francisco loved playing with his sisters Jacinta and cousin Lucia. They would play reed pipe in their backyard. He would pray to God every single day. He loved God so much and loved praising him. The three kids witnessed multiple apparitions of the Angel of Peace and Blessed Virgin Mary in Fátima, Portugal.
Francisco was sent to school but he often missed out on his classes because he preferred to visit the “hidden Jesus”. He was very dedicated to praying alone and consoling the hearts of Jesus and Mary. When people asked him what he wanted to do when he grew up, he said, “I don’t want to be anything. I want to die and go to heaven to be with God.”
Francisco died on the 4th of April, 1919 and his Feast day is celebrated on February the 20th each year.
