Werribee Mansion Excursion

Year 2

On Monday, 14th October, the Year 2 students were lucky enough to venture back in time! They explored what life was like in the late 1800s for the wealthy Chirnside family.

The historic Werribee Mansion gave students opportunities to ponder their inquiry topic for this term “How has life changed over time?” They started to question whether it is better to be a child now, or in the past.

Students and teachers enjoyed the self-guided tour of some of the 60 opulent rooms of the mansion, expansive grounds and the Victoria State Rose Garden. They also experienced a guided tour of a children’s bedroom, and were shocked to discover not only that children of that time had to use the bathroom in their bedroom, but that they also had a fully functioning classroom right next to the bed.

Needless to say, most students were more appreciative of the luxuries of technology that we have today.

What an amazing opportunity for our Year 2 students which will guide and enhance their learning for the rest of the term.
