Holy Week

Year 2

This term in year 2, students have been immersed in the events of Holy Week. They have explored the significance of each event such as:

  • Palm Sunday – on Palm Sunday Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey for the festival of Passover. The crowd were happy to see him and waved palm branches and spread their cloaks on the ground. They shouted “Hosanna” as Jesus was their king.
  • Holy Thursday, washing of the feet – Jesus washed his disciples feet to teach his disciples that we are all equal, no one is more important than anyone else. He told the disciples to continue His work and spread the message to others.
  • Holy Thursday, The Last Supper – Jesus shared a meal with his disciples. He broke bread and drank wine, telling his disciples to remember him when he is gone. Each time we go to Mass we replicate this sharing of bread and wine to remember Him. Judas betrays Jesus and Jesus is arrested.
  • Good Friday – Jesus is crucified and dies on the cross. Jesus is placed into the tomb. It is called Good Friday because Jesus gave His life so that we could have a good life.
  • Easter Sunday – Jesus is not in the tomb! He has risen. Over the next 40 days Jesus appears to his disciples, then ascends to Heaven to be with God the Father.

Year 2 students have been creating collaborative artwork to represent each of these key events. Please feel free to come and visit the year 2 area to experience walking with Jesus during Holy Week.
