Train Excursion
On Friday 12th May, some Grade Two students went by train to the Melbourne Skydeck in the city. It was a day when all of these students experienced firsts… their first time on a train, their first adventure into the city or their first visit to the Skydeck.
The students quickly walked to the station as soon as they all arrived at school. With only a few minutes to spare, everyone boarded the train, some students were a little hesitant and scared, but all were amazed and mesmerised by their surroundings. To our surprise upon entering the train, and to the dismay of all other passengers, we were seated in the ‘quiet carriage’.
Upon arriving at Southern Cross Station, we then walked up to William Street where we hopped on a tram which took us over the Yarra River. We then walked a short distance along Southbank to the Melbourne Skydeck. The elevator took us very quickly up to the top of the building where we looked out over the city. We saw bridges, the ocean, parks and gardens, cars, buses, trucks, the MCG and lots of other exciting things. It was here we played a game of i-spy.
After the observation deck, we walked along Southbank and ventured into the Atrium at the casino to see the water feature. We had a short rest on the stairs before walking across the river to a garden area near the Aquarium. Here we played duck, duck, goose and fruit bowl. We also enjoyed collecting all of the large leaves and throwing them over our heads. By the time we finished here, it was lunch time. We caught the tram back to Southern Cross Station where we all got Hungry Jacks, before heading back to school by train. It was a great and fun day for all.
