Year 6 students vote on the important issues
In the lead up to last Saturday’s Federal election and as part of the Year 6 inquiry unit on Civics and Citizenship students took part in a mock election.
Students investigated the positives and negatives of each of the parties (sweets) and used the preferential voting system to elect a winner. Some students represented the parties and handed out how to vote ballot instructions and tried to persuade the voters to vote their way, while others took on the role of counting the votes in the classrooms to determine the winning candidate in each class and overall Year 6 winner.
Students were really engaged and enjoyed the activity. Surprisingly, Skittles was the winning candidate. However, the Year 6 teachers believed it should have been Freddo Frog.
