Fundraiser
This term Year 3 students are exploring the big question, “Why do we celebrate?”
As a part of our learning we are finding out about the differences between celebrations and commemorations and how communities keep traditions alive.
As a part of our learning we are finding out more about the significance of Remembrance Day for the Australian community. Australians wear a red poppy on Remembrance Day for three reasons: in memory of the sacred dead who rest in Flanders’ Fields, to keep alive the memories of the sacred cause for which they laid down their lives, and as a bond of esteem and affection between the soldiers of all Allied nations and in respect for France, our common battleground.
We will be making poppies and selling them to students in all year levels on the morning of Monday 11th November. Students are encouraged to bring a coin donation to receive a poppy. Any coin donation will be accepted.
Funds raised through the sale of poppies go towards the Melton RSL’s annual Poppy Appeal, which aims to raise funds to support serving and ex-serving men and women of Australia’s Defence Force and their families when in need.
Thankyou,
The Year 3 Team.
